In the past few years, the domestic battery production capacity has expanded rapidly. At present, the overcapacity situation of the entire industry is prominent, and the situation of enterprises in the industry has significantly differentiated. At the end of 2017, the planned capacity of power batteries was close to 200GWh, while the total domestic installed battery capacity was only 38GWh.

Although the production and sales of new energy vehicles still maintain rapid growth, the growth rate is far behind the growth rate of power battery capacity. High-tech lithium battery research shows that in the first half of this year, China ’s power battery shipments were 22.86GWh, while the power battery capacity was about 91.87GWh during the same period, and the capacity utilization rate was only 25%. With the continued launch of new production capacity, the annual production capacity of power batteries will reach 200 GWh by the end of this year, and it can be equipped with 4 million new energy vehicles, which is 4 times the 2018 production and sales volume. Therefore, the situation of overcapacity is difficult to ease in the short term.

China has unprecedentedly promoted new energy vehicles. From 2009 to the end of 2017, the number of new energy vehicles has exceeded 1.7 million. The core of new energy vehicles is power batteries. According to different usage scenarios, the battery life is 3-5 years. Therefore, a large number of power batteries will be scrapped in the future. Recycling of power batteries is not only in line with the environmental protection of new energy vehicles. Positioning, but also conducive to the recycling of resources such as lithium and cobalt, reducing the dependence on natural resources, is of great significance.

Policy guidance and market regulation have fostered good consumption habits for the new energy vehicle market. Cobalt, another important element in power batteries, is a scarce resource. The basis of China's cobalt reserves is about 80,000 tons, and the resources are 566,000 tons. Due to the high capacity requirements of power batteries, when the battery capacity is degraded to 70% to 80%, the demand for new energy vehicles can no longer be met, and new power batteries must be replaced. These batteries still have a relatively large utilization space. By disassembling, sorting and reassembling them, they can be applied to large-scale electricity fields such as photovoltaic power stations and microgrids, or by miniaturizing power batteries and installing them on UPS power sources and low-speed scooters. , Electric bicycles and home charging and discharging systems.

The current policy guidance is to encourage first-level utilization, then dismantling and recycling, in order to give full play to the economic benefits of used batteries. However, due to the uniformity and cost of the electricity data pool, the current level of utilization is relatively small. According to survey data, in 2017, 83,000 tons of lithium batteries were scrapped and dismantled nationwide, of which 95% were battery disassembly %.

According to survey data, the lithium battery recycling market will usher in a larger scale in 2020, and it will mainly dismantle and recycle. At this time, the scale of domestic power battery recycling will reach 4.6 billion yuan. In 2025, the scale of the recycling market will reach 37 billion yuan.
